Mizpah Brown-Rich

Mizpah Brown-Rich is the Co-Founder of Joshua’s Gift - A foundation inspired by the joy of her life: her son who is on the autism spectrum.  As a compassionate mother who loves to help people, Mizpah has made it her mission to build a non-profit to help foster friendships and inclusion for families affected by autism. Her desire to support these families led her to provide essential funding that would allow families living with autism to engage in social experiences that might otherwise be inaccessible to them.

Joy Ross - Joshua's Gift

Originally, from the Bahamas, Joy followed her passion for the Hospitality Industry and earned her first degree in Hotel Restaurant Management at Morris Brown College. She began her career in education, teaching at a post-secondary Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism school in Nassau, Bahamas. Realizing that there was an ‘art and science’ behind teaching, Joy did her Masters in Educational Leadership at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

In 1998, Joy moved to the USA following her heart in marriage and quickly settled into the educational system and completed her doctorate at Loyola University of Chicago in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Psychology. Named as the Director of the International Newcomer Center with the Chicago Public Schools, Joy led the efforts in program design for Immigrant and Refugee high school students moving to the US as teenagers with limited English language acquisition; mainstreaming into US cultural experiences. This experience is one that Joy attributes to some of her most meaningful work in education; working to build strong communities and bridge cultural gaps.

In 2004, Joy accepted an Assistant Principal’s position with Indian Prairie School District 204; which is the fourth largest school district in Illinois. For the next 11 years, Joy’s responsibilities included overseeing deans and discipline, special education, guidance, student support and all internal and external community recognition programs.

In 2009, Joy was selected as one of two Assistant Principals to open Metea Valley High School; this became the third high school in IPSD# 204 serving 2,700 students. The experience of opening a high school is one that Joy considers as a ‘gift’ and created endless opportunities for new growth and the ability to establish a legacy at the foundational level of Metea Valley High School. The experience of opening a new high school rests at Joy’s passion and current focus on Human Resources.

Joy currently serves as the Director of Human Resources for Cherry Creek School District in Greenwood Village, Colorado.  Cherry Creek School District is one of the highest-achieving school districts in Colorado. Serving 55,000 children and over 300,000 residents in 108 square miles that spread across eight municipalities: Cherry Hills Village, Centennial, Foxfield, Glendale, Greenwood Village and portions of Aurora, Englewood and Denver. Joy’s primary responsibility is to ensure systems are in place to recruit and retain educators to support thriving educational spaces in which all students learn.

Joy is passionate about building the capacity of educators, racial and equity work that impact systems and breathing life and hope into learning spaces.
